Meet Dr. Gabriella Safdieh
& The Nabella Team
“Why I Started Nabella Health…”
I started Nabella Health because I wanted to practice medicine differently. My own journey into integrative medicine began when I was searching for better answers for my son, who was struggling with asthma, food allergies, and frequent illnesses. As both a physician and a mother, I knew there had to be more we could do than simply manage symptoms. I wanted to understand why they were happening in the first place.
That experience changed the way I thought about medicine—and ultimately, the kind of physician I wanted to be. I began looking beyond individual symptoms to understand the whole person: their history, nutrition, lifestyle, environment, genetics, and the many factors that influence how they feel every day. I founded Nabella Health to create the kind of practice I wanted for my own family: thoughtful, personal, proactive care where patients feel heard, where we have the time to ask deeper questions, and where the goal isn't simply to treat illness, but to help people feel their best and stay well for years to come.

Gabriella Safdieh, MD
FOUNDER & PHYSICIAN
Dr. Gabriella Safdieh is the founder and physician behind Nabella Health, bringing together rigorous medical training with an integrative, functional, and preventive approach to care.
A University of Pennsylvania and NYU-trained physician, Dr. Safdieh completed her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a B.A. in History and Sociology of Science. She went on to earn a Master's in Medical Science from Mount Sinai School of Medicine before receiving her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Safdieh completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency at New York University School of Medicine, followed by a Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery/NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell.
Her experience in traditional medicine gave Dr. Safdieh an invaluable clinical foundation but it also showed her the limitations of treating symptoms without fully exploring why they were occurring. She saw patients whose standard testing appeared normal, yet they continued to struggle with fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, digestive issues, hormonal changes, metabolic concerns, and other symptoms that affected how they felt every day.
Dr. Safdieh wanted to go deeper. She pursued advanced education and certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM), expanding her approach to include the complex relationships among hormones, metabolism, nutrition, gut health, inflammation, lifestyle, genetics, and environment.
Rather than choosing between conventional and functional medicine, Dr. Safdieh brings the two together. As a licensed physician, she can evaluate symptoms, order and interpret diagnostic testing, diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medication when appropriate, and coordinate care — while using a functional medicine framework to investigate the underlying factors that may be contributing to a patient's health concerns.
A More Personal Approach to Medicine
In 2022, Dr. Safdieh founded Nabella Health, named after her children, with a simple philosophy: patients deserve the same level of attention, curiosity, and care she would want for her own family. Her approach is proactive rather than reactive. Instead of waiting for disease to develop or looking at individual symptoms in isolation, she works to understand each patient's health history, biomarkers, lifestyle, goals, and risk factors as a connected whole.
Today, Dr. Safdieh's clinical interests include hormone health and optimization, women's and men's health, metabolic health, gut health, autoimmune conditions, preventive medicine, healthy aging, and longevity. She is also a member of the Longevity Doctors Network and continues to study emerging research and clinical approaches in health span, disease prevention, and performance optimization.
Dr. Safdieh sees patients in person at Nabella Health's Manhattan practice and provides telemedicine care to eligible patients in New York, New Jersey, Florida, California, and Virginia.
